As an example, an Exit member recently asked how they could reconstitute Chinese powdered Nembutal, given that they had heard that pentabarbital was almost insoluble in water.

Dr Ted's answer:

The product from China is the soluble salt - "sodium pentabarbital" CAS No# 57-33-0. It dissolves readily in water, decomposes before melting. Store in a tightly sealed container (minimal air) or vacuum seal, dark place <20C

Administration is as simple as dissolving 10gm or more in ~ 50ml of water and drinking the clear liquid. Sleep will follow in a few minutes - death shortly thereafter. It is usual (but not essential) to take an antiemetic like metoclopramide beforehand to reduce the chance of vomiting.

The 'Mexican' or 'veterinary' form of the drug is a solution of sodium pentabarbital in 100ml bottles at 60mg/ml ie in each bottle is 6gm of sodium pentabarbital. Here the liquid in the bottles is simply drunk.

One bottle is sufficient, but many take x2 ie 12gm.The 'crystalline form' or 'acidic form' is "pentobarbital" CAS No# 76-74-4.

It is practically insoluble in water and has a melting point of 133C. This is not the form to take for a peaceful death!

If sufficient anti-emetics are not used or the person is unsure of their validity how likely is it that the veterinary nembutal will be vomited back up and a peaceful end will not happen?
Derek Humphry states anti-emetics are essential if using veterinary nembutal but Philip Nitschke says they are not essential?
Have people used veterinary nembutal successfully without proper anti emetics?
Thanks for replys

I have a terminal illness and would like to have nembutal before things get too bad for me. Can someone please recommend a reliable source.

Thanks

I, tragically, am in a similar situation and would like to find a reliable source.

The PPHandbook by Philip Nitschke is available to those suffering from a terminal illness or those over age 50 years who want to know their options. This makes sense to me although I think it should be available to persons over 40 years. They are adults and there is nothing wrong with an adult knowing their options of end of life choices.
Philip Nitschke says he states sources in The PPHandbook so anyone suffering from a terminal illness only has to purchase the book for the information they need.
Philip Nitschke is also supportive of people with a mental illness wanting to end their life and if they are an adult and able to make a rational choice for themselves I think every adult has a right to know and I am very grateful to him .
